Enter Mr. Rick!
We knew we couldn't do a major remodeling ourselves, so we called in a professional, Mr. Rick's General Home Repair.
Mr. Rick has done work for our family for many years. We can't say enough good things about the guy:
- He started and finished the job with no delays
- He gave lots of creative ideas to help design the kitchen
- He and his son did all of the work themselves - no subcontractors
- After every day, he cleaned up so we could actually use the space
- He stuck to his estimate, even after we gave some modifications to the plans
These are all unsolicited testimonials. Mr. Rick doesn't have a web site, otherwise we would have linked to it, but
if you're looking for someone to do any kind of residential and commercial remodeling we'll give you his number!
Here are some pictures from the construction:

Mr. Rick cut down the existing soffits and replaced them. Note the cans of PBR that were left by the original builders!

|
One of the things Mr. Rick had to do was move our air conditioner return shaft from one side of the hall to the other.
This picture shows the hole left from the original vent. Mr. Rick ran the new vent through the hall closet and created
new return vent next to the basement door.

|
With the demolition complete, Mr. Rick kindly left us the use of the sink while he worked on other parts of the kitchen.

|
The refrigerator in its new location. It was originally on the other side, blocking your way into the family room

|
The new cabinets are hung, and the countertop cores are being test-fitted. Notice the angled corner cabinets in the corners
of the room and in the island. This opened the kitchen and helped us avoid the boxy, 90-degree angle look everywhere

|
Here the laminate countertops have been installed, and the rough wiring in the electric outlets have been pulled.
Looks like everything is taking shape! Let's see how it turned out.
